No needles, no fillers, no recovery time. Walk out looking lifted and refreshed
60 Minutes
What Happens During a Buccal Massage
External Massage
15 minWe begin with sculpting massage techniques on the face, neck, and décolletage to warm muscles, boost circulation, and start the lymphatic drainage process.
Intra-Oral Work
25 minUsing gloved hands, your esthetician works inside the mouth to reach deep facial muscles — the masseter, buccinator, and pterygoid. This is where the real sculpting happens. Tension melts, muscles release, and the face begins to lift.
Final Sculpting
20 minWe finish with external sculpting, lymphatic drainage, and a cooling mask to lock in the lift. Your esthetician will recommend a treatment frequency based on your goals.

Buccal Massage FAQ
What is a buccal massage?+
Buccal massage (pronounced 'buckle') is an advanced intra-oral facial massage technique. Your esthetician works both inside and outside the mouth to release deep facial muscle tension, sculpt the jawline, and create a natural lifting effect. It's been popularized by celebrities like Meghan Markle and Jennifer Aniston.
Does buccal massage hurt?+
Most clients describe it as 'intense but not painful.' You may feel deep pressure, especially in areas with significant tension (jaw clenchers, TMJ sufferers). Any discomfort is brief and the relaxation that follows is profound. Your esthetician adjusts pressure to your comfort level.
How many sessions do I need to see results?+
Most clients see visible lifting and contouring after just one session. For lasting results, we recommend a series of 4-6 sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart, then monthly maintenance. Each session builds on the last as muscles 'learn' their new position.
Is buccal massage better than Botox or fillers?+
They work differently. Botox paralyzes muscles; fillers add volume. Buccal massage actually retrains facial muscles, improves circulation, and creates natural lift without any chemicals or injections. Many clients use buccal massage to extend the time between Botox appointments or as a natural alternative.
Can buccal massage help with TMJ?+
Absolutely. Buccal massage directly targets the masseter and pterygoid muscles — the primary muscles involved in TMJ disorder. Many of our TMJ clients report significant relief from jaw pain, headaches, and teeth grinding after just a few sessions.
How much does buccal massage cost in San Diego?+
At Facials Bar La Jolla, buccal sculpting face massage is $159 for a 45-minute session. Add Gua Sha for $199/60 min. We also offer a 45-minute sculpting face massage (external only) for $159. Signature and Platinum members save 15-20% on additional facials.
Who should not get a buccal massage?+
Buccal massage is not recommended if you've had recent dental work (within 2 weeks), active oral infections, recent facial fillers (within 4 weeks), or facial surgery (within 6 months). Always inform your esthetician of any medical conditions.
